Eastover sits roughly 7 miles from our practice on Yadkin Road. That is about a 10-minute drive via I-95 Business or the I-295 Outer Loop. For most Eastover residents, we are closer than the nearest practice in central Fayetteville and roughly the same distance as a Wal-Mart run.

If you have been putting off a cleaning, the drive is not the reason to keep putting it off. This page covers what a cleaning actually involves, who is providing the care, and how to schedule one.

Eastover Sits 7 Miles From Our Office

Eastover is at the northern terminus of I-95 Business and the eastern end of I-295 (the Fayetteville Outer Loop). Yadkin Road is in northwest Fayetteville, on the Fort Liberty side of town. The most direct route from Eastover is I-295 westbound around the north of Fayetteville, then exit toward Yadkin Road. Total drive: about 7 miles, 10 minutes under normal conditions.

Because the practice is on this side of town rather than downtown, Eastover patients usually avoid the Eastern Boulevard traffic that bottlenecks anyone heading to a downtown Fayetteville dentist.

What a Professional Dental Cleaning Includes

A standard adult cleaning runs about 45 to 60 minutes. Here is the actual sequence of what happens:

  1. Soft-tissue check. The hygienist looks at gums, tongue, cheeks, and palate for inflammation, lesions, or oral cancer signs.
  2. Periodontal probing.Pocket depths are measured at six points per tooth. Anything over 3mm is flagged.
  3. Plaque and tartar are removed above and below the gumline using ultrasonic and hand instruments.
  4. Surface stains are removed and tooth surfaces are smoothed.
  5. Flossing and fluoride.Tight contacts get cleared, fluoride treatment is offered based on decay risk.
  6. Exam by Dr. Davis.Findings are reviewed, x-rays read, follow-up steps discussed.

If you have not had a cleaning in over a year, the first visit may run longer. Heavy tartar deposits sometimes require staged removal across multiple appointments.

Dr. Jeremiah Davis: Credentials That Matter

Fayetteville NC Dentist Dr. Jeremiah C. Davis Recognized as One of the Top Implant Dentists in North Carolina

Dr. Davis is a US Army veteran (82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg). His credentials:

  • Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD)
  • Master of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (MICIO)
  • Master of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO)
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (FAAID)
  • Diplomate, American Board of Oral Implantology (DABOI/ID)
  • Surgical Master of the Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy
  • Dawson Academy Scholar
  • Voted Top 40 Dentists Under 40

For a routine cleaning, these credentials may not matter to you. They become relevant the moment something more complex comes up during the cleaning, such as a cracked filling, early gum disease, or a worn-down tooth that needs reconstruction. The advantage of a master-credentialed practice is continuity: you do not get bounced to a specialist for things a general practice can handle.

The Types of Cleanings We Provide

Routine Prophylactic Cleaning

Standard biannual cleaning for patients with healthy gums. Includes above-the-gumline scaling, polishing, and fluoride if indicated.

Scaling and Root Planing

Required when gum pockets reach 4mm or deeper. The hygienist cleans below the gumline and smooths the root surfaces under local anesthesia. Usually split into two visits, one side of the mouth per visit.

Periodontal Maintenance

After scaling and root planing, your cleaning schedule shifts to every three or four months instead of six. This tighter interval prevents the gum disease from coming back.

Implant Maintenance Cleaning

Implants require non-metal cleaning instruments to avoid scratching the titanium surface. We use specialized implant scalers and air polishing with glycine powder. We can maintain implants placed elsewhere, including ones we did not place ourselves.

How Often Should You Schedule a Cleaning?

The American Dental Association recommends cleaning intervals determined by your dentist based on individual risk factors. Twice a year is the baseline for adults with healthy gums. Patients with gum disease, diabetes, or smoking history often benefit from cleanings every three or four months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How close is your office to Eastover?

Roughly 7 miles, about a 10-minute drive via the I-295 Outer Loop. That puts us closer than most of the larger dental offices on the south side of Fayetteville. For families along Dunn Road or US-301, the trip is often shorter than driving across town for the closest big-name practice.

What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A regular cleaning, called a prophylaxis, removes plaque and tartar from above the gumline on patients with healthy gums. A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, addresses tartar that has built up below the gumline in patients with gum disease. We determine which one you need by measuring the depth of the pockets around your teeth. We do not bill a deep cleaning when a routine one is appropriate.

Can the whole family come on the same day?

Yes. We schedule family blocks so parents and children can be seen back-to-back or in parallel chairs. Tell us when you book how many people you want to bring and what ages, and we will set up the appointments to keep the visit efficient for you.

How often should children get cleanings?

The American Dental Association recommends children visit the dentist every six months once their first tooth comes in or by their first birthday, whichever comes first. From that point forward, six-month intervals are standard unless your child has a higher cavity risk. We are comfortable with children of all ages, including first-visit toddlers.

Can you clean my dental implant if it was placed elsewhere?

Yes. Implants require non-metal cleaning instruments to avoid scratching the titanium surface, and we use specialized implant scalers along with air polishing with glycine powder. It does not matter whether we placed the implant or another office did. Bring whatever records you have from the placement and we will work from there.

Do you accept walk-ins?

We strongly prefer scheduled appointments because cleanings are time-blocked for the hygienist. That said, if you are dealing with an emergency, call (910) 864-4646 and we will get you in as soon as possible. For a routine cleaning, booking in advance is the better path.

Schedule Your Cleaning

Call (910) 864-4646 to schedule or request an appointment online. First-time visits run slightly longer to accommodate a full periodontal exam and any necessary x-rays before the cleaning. If dental anxiety has kept you away, ask about our Worry Free™ sedation options when you book.
