Nitrous "Laughing Gas" Dentistry

Also known as laughing gas, Nitrous Oxide is beneficial in calming a patient's anxiety before a procedure. It is a sweet-smelling, non-irritating, colorless gas which you can breathe.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Are extremely anxious about visiting the dentist? We can administer an oral sedative to relax you before performing any restorative dental procedure. Safe and effective, Oral Sedation allows you to remain awake and aware, but your anxiety will be reduced for any dental procedure.

IV Sedation

Conscious IV Sedation is also known as "twilight sleep". We are specialty trained to offer this type of sedation. It is particularly good for patients with strong gag reflexes, high dental anxiety or for those patients requiring multi-visit procedures that would prefer for the work to be done in one visit. IV Sedation is also used in most oral surgery procedures and requires more planning on the patient and doctor's part. The patient will be groggy after the procedure and as such, will need a friend or family member to drive them home as well as monitor them for the next few hours.

Expert Implant Care That Patients Love To Share!

What Are the Steps Involved in the Dental Implant Procedure?

1. Comprehensive Oral Assessment

The dental implant journey begins with a thorough evaluation of your oral health. During this initial consultation, your dentist will review your medical history, conduct X-rays, and possibly use 3D imaging to assess the condition of your jawbone. This step ensures that you are a suitable candidate for implants.

2. Surgical Implantation

If you're deemed a good candidate, the next step involves surgically inserting a small, biocompatible titanium post into your jawbone. This post acts as the artificial tooth root and is crucial for supporting the final restoration.

3. Osseointegration Process

Following surgery, the healing period begins. Known as osseointegration, this is when the titanium post naturally bonds with the jawbone over a few months, creating a strong and stable foundation, much like the roots of a tooth.

4. Abutment Placement

Once osseointegration is complete, a small connector called an abutment is attached to the implant post. This piece serves as the link between the implant and the artificial tooth. Some dentists might perform this step simultaneously with the original implant placement.

5. Custom Restoration

The final stage is the design and placement of a custom-made crown. Tailored to match the color and shape of your natural teeth, the crown is affixed to the abutment, completing your revitalized smile. This procedure not only restores appearance but also reinstates chewing functionality.

How Do Dental Implants Improve Dental Health Compared to Traditional Bridges?

Dental implants offer several advantages over traditional bridges when it comes to enhancing dental health. Unlike bridges, which require the alteration of adjacent, healthy teeth for support, dental implants do not impact the surrounding teeth. Each implant is a standalone structure, ensuring that the integrity of neighboring teeth remains intact. This lack of dependency is vital for long-term oral health because it prevents potential damage and the erosion of healthy enamel.

Moreover, dental implants are incredibly durable. They mimic the function of natural tooth roots, which means they are designed to last a lifetime without degrading. This longevity reduces the need for future dental work, accounting for fewer dental visits and less maintenance over the years.

Additionally, by preserving the jawbone through stimulation, implants help maintain facial structure and prevent bone loss, a common issue with traditional bridges. This bone preservation is crucial as it helps to retain the natural contour of the face, avoiding the sunken appearance that often accompanies tooth loss.

In summary, dental implants support dental health by safeguarding surrounding teeth, reducing the need for repetitive dental procedures, and maintaining natural facial aesthetics. They represent a robust and effective alternative to traditional dental bridges.

Are Dental Implants Cost-Effective in the Long Run?

Investing in dental implants may seem pricey upfront compared to dentures or bridges. However, their long-term value truly stands out. Here's why:

  1. Longevity: Dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care, unlike dentures or bridges which may require replacement every 5-10 years.
  2. Low Maintenance: Implants require routine oral hygiene, but they don’t need special adhesives or soaking solutions. Compare this to the ongoing costs associated with maintaining dentures.
  3. Durability: Made from robust materials like titanium, implants are designed to withstand daily use. This minimizes the need for repairs or replacements, saving money over time.
  4. Health Benefits: Implants help preserve jawbone structure, reducing the risk of future oral health issues. This can prevent costly dental treatments down the road.
  5. Enhanced Quality of Life: With implants, you enjoy a no-slip fit, which can improve comfort and confidence compared to other tooth replacement options.

Why Are Dental Implants Considered a Lifetime Tooth Replacement?

Dental implants are increasingly being chosen as the premier option for tooth replacement, recognized not just for their durability but for a multitude of benefits that support lifelong oral health. So, what makes them a long-term solution? Let's delve into the reasons:

Longevity and Durability

Dental implants are crafted to be a one-time investment. Unlike bridges or dentures that might need periodic replacements every 7-15 years, implants are designed to stand the test of time. With proper care, they can sustain their function for decades, often lasting a lifetime.

Bone Health Preservation

One of the silent benefits of dental implants is their ability to preserve jawbone health. When a tooth is lost, the underlying bone can begin to erode due to the absence of stimulation. Implants act like natural tooth roots, stimulating the bone and preventing deterioration, thus maintaining your natural facial structure.

Natural Appearance and Functionality

Aesthetic and functional benefits are another reason why implants are preferred. They mimic the appearance and operation of natural teeth, allowing for confidence in speech and eating. The seamless blend with your existing teeth contributes to their appeal as a practical solution.

Facial Structure Maintenance

Over time, missing teeth can cause changes in facial appearance, leading to a sunken look. Implants support your natural facial shape by preventing such alterations, ensuring that your facial contours remain intact.

Cost-Effectiveness Over Time

While the initial cost of implants may be higher than alternative options like dentures, their long-term cost-efficiency becomes apparent over time. The enduring nature and minimal maintenance needs make them an economically smart choice.

Preservation of Adjacent Teeth

Unlike some traditional methods, implants do not require the alteration of neighboring teeth. This means your healthy teeth remain untouched, promoting overall dental health. Implants integrate flawlessly, supporting a balanced bite without compromising surrounding teeth.

Choosing dental implants means choosing a solution that supports both immediate and long-term dental health, making them a truly lifetime investment in your smile and confidence.

How Are Dental Implants Better Than Bridges for Replacing Missing Teeth?

When considering options for replacing missing teeth, dental implants offer several advantages over traditional bridges.

Independent Stability

Dental implants provide a self-sustaining solution that does not require altering neighboring teeth. They are installed directly into the jawbone, acting as standalone replacements that function and look like natural teeth.

Preservation of Healthy Teeth

Unlike bridges, which rely on adjacent teeth for support, implants maintain the integrity of surrounding teeth. Bridges necessitate reshaping healthy teeth to accommodate the bridge, which can weaken them and increase vulnerability to decay over time.

Long-Term Durability

Implants typically have a longer lifespan compared to bridges. The integration of an implant into the jawbone creates a robust foundation that can last a lifetime with proper care, whereas bridges often need replacement every 5-15 years due to wear or damage.

Oral Health Benefits

By fusing with the jawbone, dental implants help maintain bone density, reducing the risk of bone loss—a common issue when teeth are missing. This process, known as osseointegration, not only strengthens the jaw but also preserves facial structure.

Enhanced Comfort and Functionality

Implants feel more natural than bridges, allowing for easier chewing, speaking, and overall mouth function. They do not rely on connecting hardware that can shift or cause discomfort, providing a seamless experience that mimics natural teeth.

In summary, dental implants offer a superior method for replacing missing teeth due to their independent stability, preservation of healthy teeth, durability, oral health benefits, and natural comfort.

How Should You Care for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a lasting solution, but their longevity heavily depends on proper care. Here's how you can ensure your implants remain in excellent condition:

  1. Daily Brushing: Treat your implants like your natural teeth. Brush twice a day, ideally after meals, for about two minutes each time. This helps to remove food particles and prevent plaque buildup.
  2. Flossing: Make flossing a daily habit. It’s crucial to clean the areas between implants and gums to maintain gum health.
  3. Use the Right Tools: Consider using a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Electric toothbrushes can offer added cleaning power.
  4. Choose a Suitable Mouthwash: An antibacterial mouthwash can help in reducing bacteria and refreshing your breath without harming your implants.
  5. Regular Dental Check-Ups: Schedule regular check-ups with your dentist to monitor the condition of your implants and overall oral health. Professional cleanings can also prevent potential issues from escalating.
  6. Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Avoid habits like smoking, which can adversely affect the condition of your implants and slow down healing.
  7. Stay Mindful of Changes: If you experience any discomfort or notice changes in your bite, contact your dentist promptly. Early intervention can prevent complications.

By embedding these practices into your daily routine, your dental implants can contribute to a lifelong healthy smile.

Understanding Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implants are a dental innovation designed for those who may have limited bone density, making them ineligible for traditional implants. These implants are considerably smaller than their standard counterparts, allowing them to fit into less dense bone structures without compromising their effectiveness.

How Do They Work?

Mini implants serve as a robust anchoring system for dentures or partial dentures. Unlike conventional dentures that rely on adhesives, dentures secured with mini implants attach directly to these metal posts. This means you can enjoy increased stability and confidence with your dentures – eating a wider variety of foods becomes more feasible.

Benefits of Mini Dental Implants

  • Size and Space Efficiency: Require minimal bone space, ideal for those with bone loss.
  • Affordability: Generally more cost-effective than full traditional implant procedures.
  • Stability: Provides a secure fit for dentures, reducing slippage associated with adhesive-based options.

Are Mini Dental Implants Right for You?

The decision to opt for mini dental implants should be made in consultation with your dentist. They will evaluate your oral health, bone structure, and personal needs to determine if this is the right choice for a comfortable and effective dental solution.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

Dental implants are designed to be a durable and long-lasting solution for missing teeth. When properly maintained, they have the potential to last a lifetime. Here’s how you can ensure your investment stands the test of time:

  • Follow Dentist’s Instructions: Post-procedure care is crucial. Adhering to your dentist's guidelines can significantly impact the longevity of your implants.
  • Maintain Oral Hygiene: Just like with your natural teeth, regular brushing, flossing, and professional dental cleanings are essential. This helps prevent gum disease, which can affect the health of the implant.
  • Regular Check-Ups: Schedule routine dental visits. These check-ups allow your dentist to monitor the condition of your implants and address any issues early on.
  • Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Avoid smoking and limit foods that are excessively hard or sticky, as these can damage the implant or surrounding teeth.

While dental implants can last a lifetime, the surrounding components, like crowns or bridges, might need replacement after 10-15 years due to normal wear and tear. If you experience extended discomfort or pain after your implant procedure, it's advised to consult your dentist promptly to ensure everything is as it should be.
