What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A regular cleaning, called a prophylaxis, removes plaque and tartar above the gumline for patients with healthy gums. A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, addresses tartar that has built up below the gumline in patients with gum disease. We determine which one you need by measuring the depth of the pockets around your teeth during the periodontal exam. We do not bill a deep cleaning when a routine one is appropriate.

Can the whole family come on the same day?

Yes. We schedule family blocks so parents and children can be seen back-to-back or in parallel chairs. Tell us when you book how many family members and what ages, and we will set up the appointments to keep the visit efficient. We are comfortable with children of all ages, including first-visit toddlers.

Can you maintain my dental implant if it was placed elsewhere?

Yes. We maintain implants placed by any provider. Implants require non-metal cleaning instruments to avoid scratching the titanium surface; we use specialized implant scalers and air polishing with glycine powder. Bring whatever records you have from the placement and we will work from there.
