If your wisdom teeth are causing pain, swelling, or pressure and you live or work on or near Fort Liberty, The Teeth Doctors is a short drive away on Yadkin Road. Dr. Jeremiah Davis is a former US Army captain who served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, and the practice he built reflects that background: clear information, written estimates, sedation options under one roof, and no treatment scheduled until you have what you need to make the call.

Wisdom teeth care for Fort Liberty service members and families

The practice has cared for active duty service members, retirees, dependents, and Department of the Army civilians for years. Wisdom teeth procedures fit naturally with how we work because the appointments require coordination around duty schedules, deployment timelines, school calendars for dependents, and recovery windows that need to fit around PT, training, and travel.

For a wisdom teeth case, the typical sequence is consultation, panoramic X-ray, treatment plan with written estimate, then the procedure with the sedation option you choose. Most patients are home the same day and back to normal activity inside a week. We do not schedule surgery until you have signed off on the plan and the estimate.

About Dr. Jeremiah Davis: a former 82nd Airborne captain still serving the post

Fayetteville NC Dentist Dr. Jeremiah C. Davis Recognized as One of the Top Implant Dentists in North Carolina

Dr. Davis served as a captain in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg before building this practice. He still lives and works in Fayetteville, and a meaningful portion of the practice is people he or his family already know from the post.

His clinical credentials are unusual for a general practice:

  • Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD), held by fewer than 2% of US general dentists
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology (DABOI/ID), one of only three dentists in North Carolina with this distinction
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (FAAID)
  • Master of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (MICIO)
  • Master of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO)
  • Surgical Master of the Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy, one of only two dentists in the US to hold this
  • Dawson Academy Scholar
  • Voted Top 40 Under 40 dentists (Incisal Edge magazine)

For wisdom teeth, the relevant point is this: surgical extractions, sedation, and detailed 3D imaging are core to implant work, and Dr. Davis does that work daily. We handle straightforward and many complex impactions in-house. If your case is better routed to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, we will tell you directly.

When wisdom teeth need to come out

Third molars usually try to erupt between ages 17 and 25, the age window that captures most enlisted soldiers and their younger dependents. When the jaw lacks space, the teeth may grow at an angle, stay trapped under the gum, or partially erupt. Common signals that they need evaluation: dull or sharp pain at the back of the jaw, swelling, recurring infections, food packing between molars, pressure on neighboring teeth, or panoramic X-rays showing impaction.

Sedation options for a comfortable visit

Three sedation paths are available:

  • Nitrous oxide ("laughing gas"): light sedation that wears off within minutes. You can drive yourself home.
  • Oral sedation: prescribed medication taken before your appointment. You will need a driver.
  • IV sedation (sleep dentistry): deepest level we offer. You will likely have no memory of the procedure. You will need a driver and a companion at home for several hours.

We walk through which option fits your case during the consultation. The decision is yours, with a recommendation based on medical history and procedure complexity.

What recovery looks like

Procedures usually take 45 to 90 minutes. Most patients are back to a normal routine within three to five days for straightforward cases. You leave with written aftercare instructions, a phone number to call if anything is off, and a follow-up appointment scheduled. We will give you a realistic answer at the consultation about how the recovery will fit around your duty schedule or your dependent's school calendar.

Common questions about wisdom teeth extraction

How do I know if my wisdom teeth need to come out?

Pain at the back of the jaw, swelling, recurring infections, pressure, or partial eruption are common signals. Many people without symptoms still benefit from removal if X-rays show impaction or future risk. A consultation and a panoramic X-ray will give you a clear answer.

Will this affect my deployment readiness?

Wisdom teeth extraction is a routine procedure that, when handled before issues become chronic, supports rather than disrupts your dental Class 1 or Class 2 readiness. We document treatment and outcomes for your records and can coordinate with your post dental clinic if needed.

Do you accept TRICARE?

We work with patients carrying TRICARE and other military-related dental coverage. Call (910) 864-4646 with your specific plan information so we can verify benefits before your visit.

Are all four wisdom teeth removed at once?

Often, yes. A single appointment under sedation consolidates the recovery into one window. Some cases are staged when upper and lower teeth are at very different stages or when medical history warrants it.

How long is recovery?

Most patients return to normal activity within three to five days for straightforward extractions. Avoid smoking, heavy exercise, and drinking through straws for the first several days to protect the clot.

What does it cost?

Cost depends on the number of teeth, the surgical complexity, and your sedation choice. We provide a written estimate at the consultation. We accept most dental insurance including TRICARE-affiliated plans, offer CareCredit financing, and have an in-house Friends and Family Membership Plan.
