Tooth extractions are among the most common dental procedures performed in the United States each year. They are also one of the few dental procedures where a small difference in surgical planning can make a big difference in how the rest of your mouth heals. At The Teeth Doctors in Fayetteville, NC, just minutes from Eastover, Dr. Jeremiah Davis performs simple and surgical tooth extractions with full sedation options and a clear treatment plan you understand before anything starts.

Why Eastover Patients Choose Dr. Davis for Extractions

Surgical training that matches the complexity of the case

Most extractions are simple. Some are not. Dr. Jeremiah Davis holds Diplomate credentials from the American Board of Oral Implantology / Implant Dentistry, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He is also a US Army veteran. When a tooth turns out to be more involved than expected, having a surgeon-credentialed general dentist on your side from the start is the difference between a calm, controlled procedure and a referral to someone you have never met.

Extraction and what comes next, planned together

Many extractions are the first step in a longer plan. An implant might be going in later. A bone graft might be needed at the time of extraction to preserve the site. A bridge or a partial denture might be the right call. At The Teeth Doctors, the same provider plans and performs all of these stages on a single patient record. There is no handoff to a separate oral surgeon and no starting over with a new doctor.

Types of Tooth Extractions We Perform

Simple extractions

A simple extraction is performed on a tooth that is fully erupted and visible in the mouth, with uncomplicated root anatomy. Dr. Davis numbs the area with local anesthetic and gently loosens and lifts the tooth out. Most simple extractions take 15 to 30 minutes.

Surgical extractions

Surgical extractions are needed when a tooth is broken at the gumline, has fused or unusual root anatomy, or is impacted below the gum tissue or bone. These cases involve a small incision in the gum and, in some cases, removal of a small amount of bone. Surgical training matters most for these cases.

Wisdom tooth removal

Third molars are evaluated on their own merits. Some can stay. Others cause crowding, decay in adjacent teeth, or chronic gum infection and need to come out. Dr. Davis typically removes all needed wisdom teeth in a single visit under IV sedation.

Multiple-tooth extractions

Several teeth removed in one appointment is common in cases of widespread decay, severe periodontal disease, or as the surgical phase of a full-arch implant treatment. Careful planning makes the experience predictable for the patient.

What to Expect at Your Tooth Extraction Visit

Consultation and imaging

Your first visit includes a focused exam and digital X-rays. For more complex cases, a 3D cone beam scan gives Dr. Davis a clear picture of the tooth and the bone surrounding it. This is also when sedation, medical history, and the post-extraction plan are discussed.

The day of the procedure

Arrive a few minutes early. You will be brought back, numbed (and sedated if you have chosen that path), and the extraction is performed. Gauze is placed at the site, post-op instructions are reviewed with you, and you head home. Most patients are in and out within 90 minutes.

Follow-up

A check-in is scheduled based on the complexity of your case. If a bone graft or future implant is part of your plan, you will leave with a timeline already mapped out.

Sedation Options for Anxious Patients

Dental anxiety is common, and we take it seriously. Our Worry Free from A to Z approach gives you four sedation options to choose from:

  • Local anesthetic alone
  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
  • Oral sedation
  • IV sedation

Dr. Davis will recommend the option that fits your case and your comfort. Bring up any concerns at the consultation. We will work with you, not around you.

Healing and Aftercare

First 24 hours

A blood clot forms in the socket within the first few hours. That clot is the foundation for healing, so protect it. Keep gauze in place as instructed, skip straws, eat soft foods, and rest with your head slightly elevated.

Days two through seven

Swelling and mild soreness peak around day two and improve from there. Over-the-counter pain medicine handles most cases. Gently rinse with warm salt water starting 24 hours after the procedure. Skip smoking and hard exercise until cleared.

When to call us

Call (910) 864-4646 if you have unusual swelling, bleeding that has not slowed, fever, or sharp pain that gets worse around day three or four. The last symptom can indicate dry socket, which is uncomfortable but easily treated in our office.

Cost, Insurance, and Financing

Tooth extraction cost depends on the type of extraction, whether sedation is used, and whether bone grafting or other adjunct procedures are part of the plan. Dr. Davis will give you a clear written estimate at the consultation before anything is scheduled.

We accept most major dental insurance plans and file claims on your behalf. For patients without insurance:

  • The Friends and Family Membership Plan covers preventive care and offers real discounts on treatment, including extractions.
  • CareCredit provides third-party financing with promotional periods to spread payments over time.

If cost is a concern, bring it up. There are almost always more options than patients expect.

Eastover Tooth Extraction FAQs

How long does a tooth extraction take?

A simple extraction is usually 15 to 30 minutes. Surgical extractions and wisdom teeth typically take 30 to 60 minutes. Multiple-tooth cases take longer.

Will the extraction hurt?

The procedure itself should not hurt. The area is fully numbed before any instrument touches the tooth. Patients who choose IV sedation often have no memory of the procedure at all. Soreness once the anesthetic wears off is normal and is managed with the medication regimen you go home with.

How soon will I feel back to normal?

Most patients feel substantially better within three to four days. Soft tissue closes over the socket within one to two weeks. Full bone healing takes several months.

Will I need to replace the extracted tooth?

It depends on which tooth was removed, your bite, and your goals. Wisdom teeth typically do not need replacement. Other teeth often do. If implant placement is on the table, the right time to plan it is before the extraction, since bone-preservation steps at the time of extraction make later implant placement easier.

Do I need someone to drive me home?

Only if you have chosen oral or IV sedation. Patients with local anesthetic alone or nitrous oxide can drive themselves home.
