The day of the procedure

Arrive a few minutes early. You will be brought back, numbed (and sedated if you have chosen that path), and the extraction is performed. Gauze is placed at the site, post-op instructions are reviewed with you, and you head home. Most patients are in and out within 90 minutes.

Follow-up

A check-in is scheduled based on the complexity of your case. If a bone graft or future implant is part of your plan, you will leave with a timeline already mapped out.

Swelling and mild soreness peak around day two and improve from there. Over-the-counter pain medicine handles most cases. Gently rinse with warm salt water starting 24 hours after the procedure. Skip smoking and hard exercise until cleared.

How long does a tooth extraction take?

Will the extraction hurt?

The procedure itself should not hurt. The area is fully numbed before any instrument touches the tooth. Patients who choose IV sedation often have no memory of the procedure at all. Soreness once the anesthetic wears off is normal and is managed with the medication regimen you go home with.

How soon will I feel back to normal?

Will I need to replace the extracted tooth?

It depends on which tooth was removed, your bite, and your goals. Wisdom teeth typically do not need replacement. Other teeth often do. Do I need someone to drive me home?
