Why Dunn Patients Drive 25 Miles for Dentures

Dunn has dentists. So does Erwin. So does Spring Lake on the route between Dunn and our office. If all you need is a routine partial relined or a worn upper denture remade, your closest dentist is the right answer.

Patients drive to us from Dunn for a more specific reason. They have been told they need implants and a new denture, and they want a dentist who has actually placed and restored hundreds of those cases. The drive is 25 miles down I-95 South, about 26 minutes outside rush hour. For a treatment plan that lasts 15 to 25 years, the drive pays back over and over again.

When the Drive Makes Sense (and When It Doesn't)

Honest answer first: a 50-mile round trip is not worth it for everything. Here is how we think about it.

The drive is worth it when:

  • You need full-arch implant work (All-on-4, All-on-6, full-arch zirconia bridges).
  • Your lower denture has slipped for years and you want it anchored to implants.
  • A previous denture or implant case failed and you want a credentialed second opinion.
  • You have extensive bone loss and need grafting before implants can go in.
  • You want IV sedation for the procedure and the closer offices do not offer it.

The drive is probably not worth it when:

  • You need a routine upper denture relined or a worn partial replaced.
  • You have an established relationship with a Dunn-area dentist who already knows your case.

We tell people this at the consultation. If your case is straightforward, we will say so and help you find someone closer if that is what you want.

Denture and Implant-Denture Options

Implant-Supported Full-Arch (All-on-4)

Four implants per arch hold a fixed bridge of teeth that does not come out. You brush them like natural teeth. You eat what you want, including steak and corn on the cob. The first set goes in the same day as your extractions when bone allows; the final zirconia bridge is delivered after healing.

Snap-In Overdentures

Two to four implants in your lower jaw with a denture that snaps onto them. The denture comes out for cleaning at night. It does not slip when you talk or eat. This is the most common reason Dunn patients drive to us: a slipping lower denture made stable.

Traditional and Partial Dentures

We make traditional full dentures and partials too. We are not pushing implants on patients who do not need them. If a well-made conventional denture is the right answer for your case, that is what we will recommend.

Dr. Davis's Implant Credentials

Dr. Jeremiah Davis is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology / Implant Dentistry, a Master of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, a Master of the Academy of Osseointegration, and a Surgical Master of the Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy.

Translated out of the alphabet soup: that is roughly ten years of post-dental-school training focused on implant placement and restoration, hundreds of supervised cases, and three separate board exams. The DABOI/ID alone is held by fewer than one in 200 dentists nationwide.

Dr. Davis is also a US Army veteran, which matters to many of our patients but is not specific to Dunn.

Free Consultation: What We Cover in 60 Minutes

The first visit is free. You get a full exam, a panoramic x-ray, and a 3D CBCT scan if implants are on the table. We review your medical history, your goals, and your budget. You leave with a written treatment plan, a price for each viable option, and a clear next step. We do not pressure-close at the consultation.

Sedation for Long-Distance Patients

If you are driving down from Dunn for a long appointment (full-arch extraction and implant placement, for example), IV sedation makes the day easier. You sleep through the procedure, the time goes fast, and you wake up with the work done. You will need a driver to take you home. Oral sedation and nitrous are also available for shorter or less complex appointments.

FAQs From Our Dunn-Area Denture Patients

Is it worth driving from Dunn for routine denture work?

Probably not, and we will tell you that at the consultation. The drive is worth it for implant-supported cases, full-arch reconstruction, complex grafting, and second opinions on failed cases.

How long is a same-day implant appointment?

Plan on 4 to 6 hours including check-in, sedation recovery, and post-op instructions. We schedule the appointment so you can be on the road home before commute traffic builds.

Can I have a follow-up done at a closer dentist?

Some adjustments yes, surgical follow-ups no. We coordinate with your local dentist for routine cleanings and exams between your major appointments with us.

What if I cannot drive home after sedation?

You will need a driver for IV sedation appointments. Some patients book a hotel near our office for full-arch days; we can recommend nearby options.
