Implant-supported dentures, All-on-4, and full-arch reconstruction from a board-certified implant dentist for patients in Scotland County and the southern Sandhills.
Is the Drive From Laurinburg Worth It?
Laurinburg is about 43 miles from our office. That is a real drive, roughly an hour each way on US-401 or I-95. We are not going to pretend it is convenient. So the question is fair: why would a Laurinburg patient make that trip when there are general dentists right there in Scotland County?
For most routine dental work, you should not. A cleaning, a filling, even a single denture remake usually does not justify a two-hour round trip. Stay close to home for those.
There are specific cases where the drive does make sense, and those are the cases this page is about.
When the Drive Makes Sense (and When It Does Not)
Routine removable dentures
A standard upper or lower removable denture is a procedure most experienced general dentists can do well. If you need a basic denture and the practice closest to you in Laurinburg has experience with denture cases, that is probably your better option. The drive does not pay back here.
Implant-supported dentures and All-on-4
This is where the calculation changes. Implant-supported dentures and All-on-4 are surgical procedures that require advanced training, specialized equipment, and case experience to do well. The dentists who do them at volume are usually concentrated in larger markets. For Laurinburg, that means Fayetteville or Pinehurst.
Patients who choose to drive to us for these cases are typically choosing on credentials, case experience, and the fact that we do everything (extractions, implant placement, the prosthetic, follow-up) in one office. You do not get bounced between an oral surgeon, a periodontist, and a prosthodontist in three different cities.
Full-arch reconstruction or failed implant cases
If a previous implant case did not go well (the implant failed, the prosthetic does not fit right, you have lost bone and need to start over), you want a dentist whose specialty is exactly this. Dr. Davis sees a substantial number of these cases. They are technically demanding, and the credentialing exists in implant dentistry precisely because they are difficult.
Dr. Davis's Implant Credentials
For implant work, the relevant credentials are these: Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD), Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (FAAID), Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology (DABOI/ID), Master of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (MICOI), and Master of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO). Dr. Davis holds all five.
The DABOI/ID is the gold standard board certification for implant dentistry in the United States. A small percentage of dentists nationally hold it. Combined with the MAGD, FAAID, MICOI, and AO mastership, this represents about a decade of post-dental-school continuing education and supervised case work focused on dental implants and full-arch restoration.
What Your Visit Looks Like
Because of the drive, we structure your visits to minimize trips. Your first appointment is a long consultation: full exam, 3D scan, photos, bite imprint, and a written treatment plan with cost estimates before you leave. We will tell you honestly whether your case is one where driving from Laurinburg makes sense or whether you would be better served closer to home.
From there, we group procedures where possible to cut down on round trips. For an implant case, that typically means: surgery day (extractions and implant placement), healing period, abutment and prosthetic placement, then a final fit check.
Cost, Insurance, and Financing
We give you a written estimate at the consultation, not after. We accept most major dental insurance plans (call to confirm yours). For uninsured patients, the Friends and Family Membership Plan covers preventive care and offers a discount on dentures and implant work. CareCredit financing is available for the larger cases where insurance does not cover everything.
Sedation Options for Anxious Patients
A drive from Laurinburg followed by an implant procedure is a long day. Sedation can make it manageable, especially for patients who have been putting off dental work for years.
- Oral sedation: a pill before your appointment that takes the edge off. You stay awake but relaxed. Plan to have a driver if you take this option, especially given the drive home.
- Nitrous oxide (laughing gas): wears off within minutes after your appointment. You can drive yourself home, including the drive back to Laurinburg.
- IV sedation: for full-arch implant placement, complex grafting, or serious dental anxiety. You sleep through the procedure and need a driver.
For Laurinburg patients, IV sedation usually means staying with someone in Fayetteville or having a family member do the round trip with you. Discuss logistics at your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the drive really worth it?
Honest answer: depends on your case. For a standard removable denture, probably not. For implant-supported dentures, All-on-4, full-arch reconstruction, or a redo of a previous implant case, yes. We will tell you which category you are in at the consultation. We have no interest in you driving 43 miles for work you could get done well closer to home.
Can you do everything in one office?
Yes. Extractions, bone grafting, implant placement, denture fabrication, and follow-up care all happen in our Fayetteville office. The only exception is rare cases that need a hospital setting; we refer those out and stay involved.
How many trips will I need to make?
Depends on the case. A removable denture is roughly 4 visits over 4 to 6 weeks. An implant case is 4 to 6 visits over 3 to 6 months. We coordinate scheduling to minimize trips when feasible.
What if my case turns out to be too complex for what I came in for?
We tell you. If your bone, your medical history, or some other factor changes the right approach, we walk you through it before any treatment starts. No surprise bills, no surprise procedures.
